Via Food Network

Pomegranate is a thick skinned super seedy fruit, with a brilliant red hue which is now touted as a wonder fruit by scientific researchers. But we’re not here to talk about that, we’re here talk about reasons why pomegranates are the fruit of 2017.

The high amounts of anti-oxidants, vitamin A, vitamin C and iron in pomegranates can prevent many cancers, especially prostate cancer, breast cancer and lung cancer

Via Tumblr

Kylie Jenner is obsessed with it, therefore, you ARE automatically Kylie Jenner when you eat it

Via Snapchat

Because of the endless seeds each pomegranate contains, this fruit is a snack that will last you for quite sometime, aka you won’t be getting rid of it any time soon

Via Tumblr

It’s not messy whatsoever unlike other fruits like mango, because once pomegranates are peeled, eating them is a piece of cake

Via Tumblr

Its seeds can upgrade any salad by 200%

Via Food Network

You can use its juice to make refreshing mocktails (or cocktails because life is too short)

The classic koshary at New York Koshary

The one dish that constantly fuels our country has finally made it to land of the free (but not really because Donald Trump). Koshary, Egypt’s much-loved street food and national dish, just made a grand entrance in New York, via New York Koshary, a new restaurant that’s serving it up…with a twist. Well, twists.

The Asian Fusion Koshary consists of brown rice, lentil, shrimps and coconut sauce

Egyptian restauranter Mohamed Youssef, owner of New York Koshary, told HuffPost Arabi that he didn’t want Americans to just experience the classic koshary, which is how he got so outside of the box you’re going to wish you lived in New York. “So many cultures clash -in the best way possible- with one another in this country. From Italian to Japanese, and everything in between. I’ve decided to do the same in my restaurant, which is why I introduced Asian Fusion Koshary, Mediterranean Koshary and much more,” Youssef tells HuffPost Arabi.

The Italian Inspired Koshary consists of, well, Italian pasta, meat balls and tomato sauce

We don’t know about you but koshary with meatballs? We’re drooling like there’s no tomorrow and so did Youssef’s customers. “Americans love to experience new cultures which is what made my restaurant stand out,” Youssef explains.

The Mediterranean Koshary consists of Moroccan couscous, grilled chicken, hummus, lentil, friend onions and spicy tomato sauce

WE SAID THIS: Brb while we book the next flight to New York.

Nom Nom Asia, a small Chinese restaurant in Al Barsha, has decided to do what most restaurants wouldn’t dare to do and serve free meals for the city’s unemployed. A signboard outside the restaurant says that the meal is free but people who don’t want charity and wish to pay are welcome to do so.

Vegetarian? No problem ! At Nom Nom you get the complete liberty to choose the toppings 😍 Now how cool is that ?

A photo posted by NOM NOM ASIA™ Dubai🇦🇪👌🍴 (@nomnomasia) on

“These things are done from our hearts. They are not meant for telling people and getting any mileage out of it. The sheer joy of being human can be enjoyed by giving, and that’s my belief,” Sanjay Mohan, co-owner of Nom Nom Asia, has said.

According to Khaleeji Times, the owners of Nom Nom Asia do not plan on removing the sign any time soon. “I cannot start a job center, but having a restaurant, at least I can give free food to these people. So far, I have no intention of removing the sign on the wall. It will be there for as long as I can manage.”

Nothing compares to a good hearty meal that’s cooked with love and perfection. But a wise person once said, “Ain’t nobody got time for that.” And no one really does. Pasta la vista, baby! Yumamia's chicken pesto pasta is made of tender grilled chicken breasts served with an al dente Fettuccine pasta that is stirred in a creamy basil pesto sauce. Oh, and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.

Why Did This Lebanese Man Get Arrested for Having Shawerma?

Via Pita Place

This week we’ve heard people say “death by refugees”,”death by Muslim immigrants”, but “death by a shawerma sandwich” is just another reason why the world is losing its sh** this month. A hilarious Facebook post by Lebanese man Kareem Marwan Salhab went viral after he shared how he was going to meet his God because of food.

Via Kareem Marwan Salhab

It was a cold rainy day when Sahlab decided he was in the mood for shawerma after his MMA training. Because of the weather, Sahlab decided to tuck his sandwich in his hoodie so it doesn’t get wet…which led to him almost getting arrested by Lebanese authorities. Because Sahlab is the luckiest guy in Lebanon, police officers stopped him as he was innocently passing by and almost arrested him for his sandwich. Don’t worry, they weren’t feeling hungry or anything, they just thought it was a bomb…

Read Sahlab’s full story below:

So, I was on the way back home from my MMA Training and on my way I passed by Barbar. I decided to get myself some shawerma. Since it was raining and I still had to walk home I decided to tuck the bag into my hoodie to protect the sandwiches from getting wet. Now, my house happens to be near a certain Minister’s house, and naturally, there were soldiers stationed in the area.

As I was walking (also holding a bag with my stuff) I suddenly heard loud shout from next to me telling me to stop moving. From my side, I saw a soldier carefully reaching for his weapon as he asked “shu mkhabba ta7et jacketak wle!??” (what are you hiding under that jacket) and it suddenly hit me that the sandwiches tucked in my hoodie could easily be mistaken for a bomb belt in the dark.

I looked at him and told him “sandwichet shawerma”. He  thought I was joking as he didn’t change face while slowly getting more of his comrades to show up and shout at me. He said “fta7 jacketak 3al batee2” (show us what’s inside your jacket slowly) while being ready to use his weapon at any moment. The tension could easily be cut by a knife. So I also backed up and started slowly unzipping my hoodie to reveal the Barbar bag underneath.

All tension faded from their faces as they laughed and said “shu bek mkhabba lsandwichet ra3abet l dene ya zalame” (why are you hiding these sandwiches, haha?) and I told them that it was raining and that I didn’t want them to get wet.

Moral of the story: Don’t hide shawarma inside your hoodie. #deathbyshawarma

Amidst world politics that made millions feel worthless, homeless and hopeless, Canada takes it one step further with diversity. The company just moved people to tears with their latest ad, showing us what universal acceptance is all about.

Ever since Justin Trudeau’s Liberal party won the Canadian general election in October 2015 in a conclusive victory, it ceased to surprise us when Canadians show us tolerance like we’ve never seen before. A partnership between Google and Canadian beer company Molson has resulted in a political statement called the Global Beer Fridge. Egyptian Chef Opens First Gluten-Free Bakery to Fight Insane Prices of Imported Products

A gluten-free diet is usually mistaken for those who seek a healthier lifestyle. Gluten intolerance is a condition where people are sensitive and react to a wheat protein called gluten. The symptoms can be as simple as fatigue and as extreme as joint pain and gastrointestinal problems.

Gluten intolerant people in Egypt suffer a great ordeal. While many outlets recently started offering gluten-free food options, it is always a challenge to find bread and baked treats. Other than the fact that imported products are extremely overpriced, in most stores you’ll only find flour bags that you’re expected to use to bake your own bread.

ElWatan News just shared a video of the first chef in Egypt who decided to start a bakery especially for wheat-allergic people. A previous Demerdash Pediatrics Hospital employee, Chef Hamdy Mohamed, started his own bakery after realizing how many people fail to find safe food. The timing is simply perfect as most gluten-free food is exported and the prices now are insane.

Why Besh Street’s Turkish Brunch Needs to Be on Your Dubai Weekend Agenda

Via Besh

It’s no surprise that Turkish food is the absolute bomb. It could kick McDonald’s to the curb in the hangover-remedy department. We all know that weekend brunches and Lebanese food are Dubai’s main bae, so does the Besh’s Street Brunch have what it takes to be noticed in a sea of shawerma and bottomless margaritas? Here’s why you should at least give it a chance.

Via Besh

1. Setting foot into Besh’s Street Brunch will transport you to an authentic Turkish bustling market. Tune into the ringing bells, chirping crowds, and rich aroma of freshly grilled meat. The restaurant’s brunch team has worked its ass off to nail the authentic street vibe.

Via Besh

2. It isn’t a Turkish joint without the obligatory shades of deep turquoise and funky tiles. Take your inner iPhone photographer on a field trip capturing the chic interiors.

Via Besh

3. Pro tip: Stock up on a month’s supply of floss before hitting up the brunch. It’s tempting corn on cobs, while super fun to munch through, will leave you with annoying little kernels trapped in your teeth for days. Get your cob as heavily seasoned as possible. That’s where the fun’s at.

Via Besh

4. A Turkish meal is incomplete without meat grease on your face. Dive into Besh’s array of succulent grilled meats, kebabs, and luscious seafood baskets. Piss your dentist off by eating everything off the dessert table, too. We’re talking signature Turkish desserts and bakes!

Via Besh

5. Feel like a kid again by lining up at the ice cream vendor’s cart. Take your pick of chocolate, vanilla, or pistachio. Ditch counting calories for the weekend, and get a cone of all three.

Via Besh

6. And finally, don’t you walk out that door without picking up a souvenir photo at the brunch selfie station. PS, this is a kid-friendly brunch. Parents, bring along the little ones too!

WE SAID THIS: The Besh Street Brunch runs every Friday, from 1PM to 4PM. Prices are 225 dirhams for the package with house beverages. Little ones dine at 99 dirhams a pop.

Another day, another chance for Dubai to be, well, Dubai. We often use vending machines to get a can of soda, a favorite chocolate bar, but one company is changing all of that. Gourmet Stop, a company that supplies fresh meals without human-to-human interaction, has now created vending machines all over Dubai (Dubai Outsource City, Dubai Production City and soon Business Bay) so that customers can enjoy having an actual gourmet meal in a matter of seconds.

Via me.popsugar.com

“Dubai is a fast-paced, multi-cultural city with a prevalent culture of eating out. But in business districts, people don’t always have the time to wait for a table at a restaurant. I don’t believe that speed and quality are mutually exclusive so my aim is to make sure that my fellow hard-working residents can have good food on the go without having to compromise on quality or taste,” Stephanie Khouri, the woman who is responsible for bringing the Dutch idea to the UAE, told Popsugar.

Cook Door understands the struggle (watch their new ad above) and has come up with a delicious invention that will solve all of that: Gangwich.

What’s a Gangwich, you say? Well, it’s as it sounds, a gang of four sandwiches that consists of a creamy pepper beef burger, a mustard chicken burger, a jalapeno beef burger and a dynamite chicken burger. To some of you, you’ll probably think that’s way too much food to have, but to the rest of the Egyptian population (which wins at life), more food is nothing to complain about.

The guys over at Cook Door surprised us the other day with their Gangwich, and we couldn’t be anymore happier. After a long morning of dealing with clients and having to be a specific person around them, and then dealing with other clients in the afternoon and then having to do the same thing to your personality, it’s quite refreshing to see that the food giants understand what most people go through.

Whether you like creamy things, a touch of mustard, spicy stuff, the Gangwich will cater to all your needs because it literally has everything. Our favorite was the dynamite chicken burger, but who knows, that might change later with our personality.

WE SAID THIS: We feel sorry for Egyptian vegans…

There’s a New Better Milk Alternative Now on the Egyptian Market

Milk is one of nature’s gifts that keeps on giving. Cereals wouldn’t be the same, milkshakes wouldn’t exist, and roz bel laban (rice pudding) would just be roz. The thing is about good milk in Egypt is that it’s hard to find with all the chemicals they now add to it, which is where Mandisha Farms comes into place.

Nestled away in the heart of the Western Desert (325 KM away from Cairo) is Mandisha Farms. What makes their milk so special? Well, let’s start with the fact that it’s 100% natural with no additives whatsoever and its sold in cartons, making sure that it preserves the product’s benefits and delicious taste. The milk also comes from a rare breed of cows called Holstein that were brought specifically from the Netherlands and are known to produce good quality milk.

The word Mandisha refers to the Romanian princess Mandi Shah, and it is the name of the village where the farm was built. The cows feed on grass that is specially planted in the farm to insure the production of the best quality of milk.

WE SAID THIS: We don’t know about you but we know what we’re having with our coffee tomorrow. For more on Mandisha Farms, click here

Following the tragic murder of Mohamed Bayoumi in Keif cafe, Egypt’s police started a raid that resulted in the closing and vandalizing of some Heliopolis and Nasr City cafes. Officials claimed that all the targeted cafes were unlicensed, yet the owners continued to say otherwise.

Contrary to what officials believe, Heliopolis residents have been quite depressed with all the damage, chaos and vandalism. The raids did not leave people feeling that justice for Bayoumi took place. A crime at one cafe does not excuse the destruction of another.

The sadness does not end here, as social media got flooded today with photos of the renowned fine-dining restaurant, Sachi, as well as Ayadina getting their share of the chaos. The worst part is that ‘Sachi’ won best restaurant in Egypt in 2016 by Luxury Lifestyle awards in Dubai. It is one of the best spots in Cairo, with an exceptional staff, hospitality and ambiance. Can we have good things for once, please?

WE SAID THIS: This is exactly why we can’t have nice things!
