We Egyptians love and appreciate lots of things, but nothing compares to food; especially after a mad night out with friends at 2 am. We here at Scoop Empire have compiled a list of places your belly will absolutely love to devour.

My Queen – Nasr City

Via El Menus

Via El Menus

If you like grilled food, ma7shi (stuffed vegetables with rice) and everything in between, My Queen is for you. Oh, and they deliver everywhere in Cairo.

Bab El-Hadid – Maadi and New Cairo

Bab El-Hadid is big on liver and sausages, but what you may not know is that its malfoof (cheesy bread) is the bomb.

Lido – Heliopolis

Burgers have never been so affordable. Make sure to buy loads, and by loads, I mean eight or nine of these bad boys.

Yokal – Heliopolis

Via Yokal

Via Yokal

Nothing is worth ordering from their menu except this beautiful kabout. Yes, just go there and order it. It includes 1 sausage sandwich, 1 liver sandwich, 1 kofta sandwich, 1 packet of fries, 1 sakalns (dessert) and a drink of your choice.

Pronto – Maadi

Via Pronto

Via Pronto

Every Maadi person swears by this place. Pronto literally never shuts because it’s 24/7 and its menu doesn’t end. They have everything Egyptian, but we absolutely recommend pizza. Anything pizza there is the best!

Tom & Basal – Everywhere in Cairo

Via Tom & Basal

Because koshari is a way of life. They also have feteer (puffy pastry).

Abo Ammar El-Souri – Mohandessin

When you’re too drunk too function and just crave food, Abo Ammar and his shawerma are there for your rescue!

This is basically Abo Ammar but in Nasr City.

Of course, we didn’t forget about the foul and ta3meya!

Because at 2 am you’re probably going to think this meal is going to be worth the diarrhea tomorrow.

McDonald’s

That double Big Tasty, big Coke machine and very oily fries won’t go down well tomorrow morning, but we still love them.

WE SAID THIS: Let us know if we missed any restaurants.

Am I the Only Know Who Noticed Lipton’s New Black and White Packs?

$

Okay so, I was doing my normal every other day grocery shopping  — I was actually just looking for some ripe avocados to make for an Instagrammable breakfast — when I bumped into something quite weird.

It was Lipton. Yes, the very same tea giants. You might ask me what exactly was weird about them, because what is weird about tea, especially Lipton’s (I drink at least five of them a day — with milk obviously because #ShaiBelLabanGoals). What was weird about Lipton is their boxes; they were black and white.

We’re not quite sure if this happened on purpose or not. What happened to the colors? Is that their actual new packaging? This is why I have trust issues, to be honest.

WE SAID THIS: I’ll keep you up to date as soon as I find out any more news about this black and white packaging — AND I WILL. In the meantime, you can find them where I did at Carrefour; some of my friends, however, told me that you can also find them at Hyper One and Fathalla.

We Have Found the Perfect Place in Cairo to Celebrate Ramadan 2017

Via The Nile Ritz-Carlton

Ramadan is almost upon us, and we couldn’t be happier. We’ve been waiting all year long for this month, this wonderful holy month. Why, you say? For most of us, Ramadan is a chance to reconnect with our family and friends, but more importantly, with ourselves.

Via The Nile Ritz-Carlton

Via The Nile Ritz-Carlton

Almost everything in Ramadan is just 200% better; Monopoly Deal championships that are taken way too seriously, Ramadan series’ plot twists that make Shonda Rhimes look like an amateur, and unconventional konafa toppings. There’s just one problem though: You know how going out with a group can be super hard because everyone wants different things? Well, you won’t have that problem with The Nile Ritz-Carlton because they’re catering, literally, to every taste out there.

Culina Restaurant

Via The Nile Ritz-Carlton

The ever so culinary team at The Nile Ritz-Carlton’s Culina has put together a selection of gourmet Arabic and international delicacies for an impressive iftar buffet that will make your belly go crazy. A little bird told us that the dishes will be provided through interactive cooking and molecular gastronomy stations.

 ‘Wust El Balad’ Ramadan Tent

Via The Nile Ritz-Carlton

It’s not Ramadan without a proper tent where you can eat foul and ta3meya, drink karkade, smoke shisha and watch your favorite Ramadan series. You can do basically that, and much more — there will be live entertainment, at The Nile Ritz-Carlton’s tent that will be providing sohour during the entirety of the holy month. What makes this tent very special is that your sohour will come with a big side of the Egyptian Museum view, making it the perfect place for family and friends to create the most wonderful (and obviously Instagrammable) memories.

‘Al Qahira’ and ‘Alf Leila Wa Leila’ Ballrooms

Via The Nile Ritz-Carlton

Suitable for big groups, the ‘Al Qahira’ and ‘Alf Leila Wa Leila’ ballrooms are ideal for family gatherings. Their outstanding iftar and sohour menus are just impeccable; but that’s not what makes these ballrooms stand out. What makes them stand out is the decor of the place. Imagine yourself feasting like kings and queens with a gorgeous fountain, exquisite chandeliers, upholstered walls and dreamy lighting that’ll make you feel like you’re in a palace in King’s Landing.

WE SAID THIS: The Lobby Lounge will also have a selection of gourmet Arabic and international delicacies that are available for anyone in need of a quick sohour gathering. For more information and Ramadan reservations, please contact 002 (02) 25778899.

A 12-Step Program for Decaffeinating Your Soul Before Ramadan

$

Via Tumblr

Ramadan is in less than 48 hours! For avid coffee abusers, that basically means six more drinks. Scary as hell, I know! For the past five years, the last week before Ramadan has been one major panic attack about withdrawal symptoms. Coffee is life. Coffee is our generation’s oxygen. Coffee touches your soul. Coffee is the only good reason evolution ever happened. So, the mere thought of being deprived of our morning mugs is so painful. My hands are shaking, I can hardly type.

Via Tumblr

Alas, all beautiful things come to an end so we need to start preparing ourselves for Saturday. And just like any other addiction, here are the 12 steps for decaffeinating your soul.

1- Start by admitting you are powerless when it comes to your coffee addiction, and you will probably lose your temper at work

2- Realize that a power greater than yourself will restore your sanity and no, it ain’t Starbucks

3- You will turn your will to God in the name of Ramadan and pray nonstop that you don’t get fired or divorced in the process of decaffeination

4- Today, we urge you to drink your morning coffee at noon. We understand the agony, but we must do it like that. For tomorrow, have your first sip of coffee at 4 pm

5- You’re allowed to cry. A lot

6- You’re allowed to act like that girl from the movie The Exorcism of Emily Rose. A lot

7- You are allowed to yell at a microbus driver…or an Uber one…or a Careem one. Forgiving yourself is a must

8- Your sohour is basically going to be Panadol, not ta3meya

9- Admit to God and yourself that you should have stuck to one morning cup instead of 16. Ask for forgiveness and strength

10- Make a list of people you harmed before having your morning coffee and reach out to them

11- Start meditating or binge watch mosalsalat Nelly Karim who is always in more pain than you

12- By step 12, you’ve reached a spiritual awakening and you will carry this message to other addicts.

WE SAID THIS: May the Force be with us!

Those who know me well, know that I am no cook. My mother – the incomparable Amira Abdel Sattar – however, is one hell of a cook. Here are some of my mother’s quickest and most delicious recipes that will make you the star of any Ramadan dish party. Thank you, mama!

Lentil soup (serves up to 6 people)

via: taste.com.au

  1. 1 large tomato
  2. 1 large carrot
  3. 1 large onion
  4. 10 cloves of garlic
  5. 1 cup of yellow lentil
  6. 5 liters of water
  7. 1 teaspoon of cumin
  8. Large spoon of butter
  9. Teaspoon of dried coriander

Slice the carrot, tomato, and onion into medium sized pieces. Boil water in cooking pot. Place sliced vegetables, 4 whole unsliced cloves of garlic, and the yellow lentil, into the boiling water pot. Add the cumin. Cover pot, until the mixture becomes a soft stew. Blend the stew using a hand blender.

Grind 6 cloves of garlic. In a separate pan, melt the large spoon of butter, and place the ground cloves, along with the teaspoon of dried coriander. Steer the coriander and garlic mixture for 5 minutes. Place the mixture into the pot of containing the blended lentil stew, and cover.

Leave on medium stove heat for approximately 10 mins. You can add more hot water to decrease the soup’s thickness. Add salt till you reach the preferable taste.

Beetroot and spinach salad (serves up to 6 people)

via: cookieandkate.com

  1. Small cup of soft groats

  11. 1 teaspoon of dried green mints

Boil a liter of water in a pot. Place the small cup of soft groats in the boiled water. Microwave the mixture of groats and boiling water on high heat, for two minutes. Check on mixture, if groats have not softened, add another large cup, and microwave mixture for another two minutes. Keep repeating till groats become soft and edible.

Slice all other ingredients into very small slices, and place them together. Add salt and olive oil according to your own preferable taste.

Chicken breasts with white sauce, and mozzarella cheese (serves up to 6 people)

via: pinimg.com

  1. 6 large boneless chicken breasts

This New Campaign Will Encourage You to Live Life to the Fullest

Over the course of our social media adventures, while we were avoiding all the work we’re supposed to be doing, we noticed something kind of…amazing. For their latest campaign, the aptly-named Juhayna Pure aims to promote, well, a pure lifestyle.

You’re probably wondering what that means? Juhayna Pure are encouraging everyone to be like their juices — 100% true to themselves, with no additives whatsoever. They want us to strip down to who we truly are, and simply enjoy life.

In their latest #LivePure video series, individuals are seen attempting to live a pure life, but utterly failing. Why? Because they’re trying too hard, but more importantly, they’re not being themselves. Leading a pure life is much more simpler than we think it is; it could be listening to your favorite song and screaming it at the top of your lungs, it could be reading a book by an Instagrammable beach, it could be watching birds fly in a very Tumblr-esque way…and it could be none of those things we’ve just mentioned. Why? Because only you can decide what is pure.

WE SAID THIS: Stop overthinking and let’s #LivePure. Oh, and don’t forget to check the rest of Juhayna Pure’s videos by clicking here.

NOLA Managed to Create a Konafa That Ugly-Shamed Every Other Konafa on This Planet

Oh dear Lord! Just when we thought the world is coming to an end, NOLA gave us hope; hope in a better life. Egypt’s biggest cupcakery somehow managed to create a konafa that puts every other konafa on this planet to shame.

This konafa is so good that it ugly-shamed other desserts. It looks so disturbingly sweet, it makes Ryan Gosling in ‘The Notebook’ seem eww. This creation basically looks like a Victoria Secret angel. It made my eyes tear up while I wrote a love poem to confess my undying love for it. This konafa is destroying my digestive system tonight.

And they dared use a hashtag that’s called #NOLAGoesOriental. Like hell you went oriental! You went all the way to heaven, came back with the speed of sound and knocked us all unconscious with that #foodporn video. It’s like you have no regards to our cholesterol or metabolism…not that we care anyway.

WE SAID THIS: This konafa is worth the calories.

Avocado Konafa Happened and Our Worst Nightmare Just Turned into a Reality

Why? No seriously, why is this happening? Just when we thought konafas couldn’t get any messier, someone stepped up their game and created an abomination. A konafa avocado is all what everyone is talking about today.

We have a million questions? Why can’t we leave avocado puree for toasts? Why can’t we leave avocados for Instagram? Why did they have to find their way to our beloved konafa? Is this God punishing us for making fun of red velvet konafas? What will happen next year? A konafa with donuts and frappucino? Well, actually that sounds a lot better than avocados…

WE SAID THIS: Avocados belong on Instagram not on Konafas.

Our Favorite Sushi Bar Is Coming “Next Door” to All Its Regulars in Cairo

$

This article should serve as the Pandora’s Box of all sushi enthusiasts in Egypt; as it has everything you need to know about ONE OAK Next Door, ONE OAK Steak and Sushi bar’s new chill sister.

ONE OAK Next Door opened its doors as an extension to its sibling, and it is set to be right “next door” to every sushi lover in Cairo.

The “Next Door” concept is designed mainly for a small casual dine-ins, deliveries and take-aways, without having to compromise. Meaning, you’ll still be served the highest quality of sushi that we’re used to from ONE OAK. The Next Door menu mirrors the original ONE OAK in terms of appetizers, soups and sushi; you’ll find everything from the classic Philadelphia roll to the new style nigiri, their signature hot lemon roll and more. Oh, and they even have their Sushi Madness offer that we all hate to love.

Their main objective is to expand all over Cairo’s neighborhoods, and ultimately becoming next door. The concept came to exist to cater for the ones who are too busy to trek to Cairo’s favorite steak and sushi bar, whether it’s the one at the Fifth Settlement or Sheikh Zayed.

Next Door has the same atmosphere as its original counterpart, buzzing with excitement and energy. However, it maintains its own identity. How, you say? It’s slightly less formal and more casual.

ONE OAK Next Door opened their first branch in Zamalek, very soon in Dokki, and they confirmed that these branches are just the beginning. Among the perks of Next Door opening in your neighborhood; you will no longer have to go through long rides to have a date at your favorite sushi bar, you won’t have to make reservations, and you can actually call ONE OAK to deliver their precious gems to your doorstep.

WE SAID THIS: SPOILER ALERT – Next Door won’t just cater for sushi lovers, because a little bird told me that ONE OAK’s burgers are going to be a thing very soon, and I personally cannot wait to try them.

10 tortina Desserts You’ll Want to Devour This Ramadan

$

Ramadan is the only month in the year when people don’t think of desserts as guilty pleasures — needless to say, it’s my favorite month. You’re always expected to have desserts ready if you’re hosting a 3ezooma or attending one. There are several reasons why tortina is your perfect savior for Ramadan desserts.

tortina is constantly trying to make it easier for us to place our orders, while considering our busy schedules in Ramadan. They have the “Spot Service” that is exclusive to loyal costumers; where you make the order on the phone and pick it up upon delivery. In a similar manner, tortina is collaborating with “Elves” to facilitate the home/office delivery process.

But most importantly, tortina recreated their sweetest treats but with a big, delicious twist…and it will literally get you to lose the ability to even. I have compiled a list of my top 10 favorite desserts from tortina that you must try out this Ramadan. Apologies in advance if you’re reading this before iftar.

1. Kunafa Mars Tart

Chopped Mars chocolate, mixed with light cream cheese on a kunafa crust. What else would you want from your life?

2. Kunafa Yoghurt Raspberry Ice-cream

Kunafa crust topped with yogurt raspberry ice-cream and light meringue cream. The raspberry kunafa is this year’s trend and champion, a must try for all kunafa lovers out there.

3. Helw Jebn

This popular Lebanese dessert consists of cheese dough filled with more cheese. Enough said.

4. Mango Strawberry Kunafa Cake

Baked kunafa layers filled with fresh cream, mango and strawberry cubes.

5. Om Ali Crème Brule

Mille feuille, mixed nuts, vanilla crème brulee and Italian meringue. Have you ever seen a more beautiful looking Om Ali?

6. Rawani

Rawani cake filled with fresh cream and mango cubes. YAAS QUEEN!

7. Mastique and Fresh Keshta Kunafa Cake

Kunafa layers that is filled with fresh keshta and pistachios. We think yes!

8. Baalbek

Lebanese Katayef Baalbek with walnuts and cinnamon. We’re sure we’ll find this in heaven when we go there!

9. Fried Special Katayef

Fried katayef filled with your favored fillings: tiramisu, Nutella, toffee and fresh mastique keshta. DEAR LORD this is tummy trembling!

10. Rice Pudding

Rice pudding layered with baked kunafa and fresh dates. This is the winner of a competition between tortina chefs for the best Ramadan invention. Is that a combination of our all time favorite desserts? Dreams do come true!

Finally, in line with the good deeds we’re supposed to do in Ramadan (and the rest of the year), tortina is collaborating with the Egyptian Food Bank to donate sweets to people in need. They also encourage buyers to buy an empty box for 100 EGP from tortina with a statement about the cause, and the desserts will go to Egyptian families in need instead.

WE SAID THIS: That picture of the Kunafa Mars Tart is currently my wallpaper.

Why The Edward’s Is the Perfect Place for Family Gatherings This Ramadan

Year after year, The Edward’s has proved to be one of the top spots for Ramadan gatherings. This year is no exception. Indeed, The Edward’s has upped their Ramadan game and we’re quite in love.

As a person who’s quite fond of family gatherings and good vibes, The Edward’s and Ramadan have always gone hand-in-hand for me. The coziness of the place makes it perfect for families to gather around one big table and rejoice the coming of the holy month. Everything — from the decorations and the music to the food — will make you experience that authentic Ramadan experience that we’ve all been longing for.

One thing The Edward’s excel at is the art of making their food Instagrammable — something every living millennial knows to be very important when eating.

Unlike other restaurants, The Edward’s didn’t just focus on their iftar and sohour menus, they also focused on bringing a new theme to their venue. This year, they’ve decided to revive the timeless El Leila El Kebira, taking the whole kheima concept to a whole new level with weekly entertainment.

Their open buffet will channel Egyptian, as well as international food. It will also change every day, so expect things like bamya and fatta, alongside dishes like cordon bleu and beef picatta, alongside a range of desserts, from konafa bel manga to cheesecakes. I heavily recommend Mama Foufa’s Fatta and Mix Grill — thank me later. What makes the whole experience better is that all their food is homemade.

Of course, not every family has the time to leave their homes and head to The Edward’s, but worry not, they still have your back. How, you say? Well, they’ll be providing catering service for iftar and sohour, so you don’t have to worry about whether or not made the right amount of molokheya for your 3ezomma.

WE SAID THIS: Thank me later for saving you the time consumed in picking the perfect place for your next gathering.

Cairo’s Favorite Steak and Sushi Bar Are Being Very Kareem This Ramadan

In less than three years, One Oak has proved itself to be the most authentic steak and sushi bar in Cairo, easily gaining a huge dedicated fan base. One Oak’s fans might think that their favorite haven has forgotten about them this holy month, but worry not, they haven’t in the slightest.

For Ramadan, One Oak have decided to whip up a special Ramadan menu that is full of everyone’s favorite dishes. Expect sambousak, fattoush, mix grill and everything in between.

And because they obviously care about us and want us to never overthink about what we want to have for iftar, One Oak created the most satisfying (and very Instagrammable) set menu that also happens to be wallet-friendly: it will only cost you 275 LE.

They, however, did not forget about sushi. To guarantee everyone having a Ramadan that’s kareem, they’ve launched their “30 Days of Kindness” initiative; where the Sushi Madness offer applies to every single day of the week — not just Mondays and Wednesdays.

Last but not least, you should treat yourself (and the people you care about) to their daily suhour. Why, you say? Because nothing is better than ending your day with their 100% oriental picks; from foul and eggs, to the fan-favorite mini shawerma.

WE SAID THIS: Reservations is a must; call 16553 in order not to miss One Oak’s Ramadan treats.

Here’s Why You Should Have a Mexican Suhour Tonight

Cairo’s most authentic Mexican restaurant has tailored a special suhour menu, and it’s mucho bueno.

A post shared by Gringo’s (@gringosburrito) on

I’ve always been a fan of Gringo’s, ever since they were an only-delivery place (yes, that long ago), and I was immensely happy when they decided to — finally — open up a restaurant in Maadi. But here’s where it get better, Gringo’s whipped up a special menu — where they fuse Egyptian and Mexican dishes — to help its customers celebrate Ramadan.

Imagine eating a taco falafel; yup, it’s exactly what you think it is and it tastes even so much better. Cheese de Gallo (gebna bel tamatem) is another favorite of mine where I basically drowned all my nachos in them, but what trumps every thing else on their menu is hands down the foul chili con carne. All these fusions may sound bad on paper, but they somehow actually work.

A post shared by elmenus (@elmenus) on

What makes this all even better is that their suhour menus are pretty budget-friendly, so if you’re against paying 100+ LE for suhour, Gringo’s has got your back.

This Ramadan Energy Bar Is All You Need for Sohour

Every Ramadan we witness a range of creative food ideas, whether it’s a new konafa topping or a new sohour trend, the holy month is just full of (delicious) surprises.

This year, an innovative Swiss-based company found a solution for our zombie-like state of mind while fasting.

Source: Ramadan Energy

Imran Posner and Farid Sanders – the founders of Fajr Foods, created the perfect sohour supplement in the form of an all natural, low-fat, chocolate-flavored bar to keep you energized throughout the day. Yup, a Ramadan energy bar is now a thing.

Source: Ramadan Energy

The founders have stated: “In the West, religious holidays are known for taking over the supermarkets, but for whatever reason, Ramadan is not visible. Muslims spend a lot of money over the holiday season, and we think this poses an unmet need. We need more products that focus on Muslim consumers, and Fajr Foods hopes to do that.”

According to their website, the product is clinically proven to control blood sugar for up to nine hours, sustain energy, and suppress appetite. It’s uniqueness lies in its blend of 16 energy-packed ingredients which makes it a great option for people suffering from diabetes.

You can get the Ramadan energy bar for $9.99 per box. The Fajr Foods founders confirmed that they are looking to expand in the upcoming years.

WE SAID THIS: We love the idea and we can’t wait to have this innovative healthy product in the Middle East.

Lanterns: The Ramadan Tent That’s Literally Above It All

Mirror, mirror on the wall, what’s your favorite Ramadan tent in Cairo? Ahhh, the inevitable question that we ask ourselves every year. As a foodie, I like to try the new tents that pop out of nowhere, but frankly, old is gold — because Lanterns still reigns supreme.

Situated atop the city — in Mukkatam — right inside Emaar Misr’s Uptown Cairo, the Lanterns tent has long been a favorite of mine ever since I first came to know of its existence three years ago.

Via Emaar Misr

Upon entering, your eyes cannot miss the massive “Uptown Cairo” sign planted on one of the venue’s pretty hills; the view is quite remarkable, especially when it’s paired with the ginormous open space. Seats come in all shapes and forms — there are tables, bean bags and a seating area that will convince you that you’re on a sailing ship (I’m not even joking). Another thing I’m quite fond of is the big screens that play everyone’s favorite mosalsal, and of course, the live entertainment.

Their open buffet selection has everything you’ll want and more. Think foul (from an actual cart) to taameya, kofta to shawerma, rice and potatoes, and basically everything in between. Oh, and worry not, they have shisha.

So yes, to answer the timeless question that is what’s your favorite Ramadan tent? It is, without a doubt, Lanterns.

WE SAID THIS: See you there!

As we experience Ramadan with its beautiful traditional practices, one of the most delightful things we will always love is sohour. Being our only source of energy all through the day, we always fear that our tummies aren’t being adequately stuffed with enough foul and taamia for the next day. But we don’t have to worry about it anymore because Zooba has got us covered.

Uber has decided to partner up with one of our favorite eateries — Zooba, to give us a once-in-a-lifetime sohour experience that is just one click away. Starting Wednesday, June 14, sohour can be delivered within minutes at your doorstep by requesting UberSOHOOR on demand from 11pm- 2:30am. This applies to the people of Cairo and Alexandria.

It will include a variety of goods from classic hummus dip to eggplant taamia to their famous qombela dessert and much more, all for only 100 EGP. What more can we ask for? This collaboration is currently our favorite thing to ever happen this Ramadan!
